Get Turbocharged with the Acura RDX

Style, class and sophistication are a few of the words that may describe the RDX. Along with its style comes performance and the marriage of the two seem like a match made in heaven. The RDX has Acura’s first ever turbocharged engine, Super Handling All-Wheel drive, and the Acura/ELS Surround Premium Sound System. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety awarded it the “top safety pick” which is that highest rating for impact tests and standard electronic stability control. Forbes.com placed it in with the fifteen safest SUV’s as well. In a nutshell, it is a five-seater, all terrain, all weather compact sports utility vehicle.

The 2.3-liter DOHC VTEC V6 turbocharged and intercooled engine features the highly advanced and innovative variable flow turbocharger that reduces turbo lag with an unbelievable amount of efficiency that allows it to produce a whopping 260 lbs-ft of torque at 4500 rpm. It also employs the racing-inspired Drive-by-Wire Throttle System. The variable flow turbo or the VFT, works by using a long valve that narrows the incoming passage and speeds up the exhaust flow and results in a turbine spinning rapidly which allows a lot of turbo boost at a low rpm. The intake of air is cooled through the intercooler, which allows it to burn more efficiently and powerfully.

The truly revolutionary Super Handling All Wheel Drive system gives great traction on slippery surfaces and also enhances performance. With its pro-active system that reacts continuously and monitors the power distribution between all the wheels, the RDX maintains stability all through out any condition or surface. It also sends rear power to the outside wheel faster than the front wheels that help the RDX enhance steering. With all this in one car, total control is but an understatement. Safety and a smooth drive are sure elements when it comes to the Acura RDX.
