The Tale of the Acura Legend

When Honda first introduced their new line-up of Acura cars in 1985, The Acura legend was their top luxury car models. At the time, the technological innovation of the vehicle was very advanced and was one of the first to use a computer-aided design. It was awards such as the Car and Driver’s Ten Best for three years in a row, followed by Motor Trend’s “import Car of the Year”. The Acura Legend is regarded by most to be one of the most reliable and has great performance amongst mid-size luxury cars.

The next generation of Legends was first released 1991 now using a 200 horsepower engine. The newer versions were bigger, and had several adjustments with its body that made it a more streamlined looking car. Most or what the Legend had are features that are used in luxury cars even today. Features such as power steering and power windows, hands-free phones, and auto-climate control, heated mirrors and seats were amongst the few features that are now staples in today’s luxury automobiles. Slowly it’s becoming clearer why its name suits it very well.

Upon its release in 1994, Acura gave new front bumpers to the Legend as well as a new grille. The GS sedan was its top of the line variant and housed 230 horses in its engine. Later on in 1995, they released a limited SE sedan that just had a few minor adjustments.

The Legend has always been hailed to be very sophisticated-looking and well equipped enough that allows smooth driving at your leisure. This became especially true upon the arrival of the V6 and VTEC. Its interior has always delivered a luxurious atmosphere and still having a good hint of sport. The risk that Acura took in naming it “Legend” paid off in the end and the Acura Legend is clearly rightfully named.
